What If God Set Your Schedule?
Most of us feel busy. Our calendars are full, our days feel crowded, and we’re often left wondering where the time went. We’re constantly being told how to get more done and be more efficient, but rarely do we stop to ask a deeper question: What is all this time actually for? And what might change if we trusted God not just with our beliefs, but with our calendars too?
In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we talk about time management from a very different angle—Not how to pack more into your day, but how to get more life out of the life you’ve been given. We explore what it looks like to see time as a God-given resource—and let him lead us to greater clarity, peace, and intentionality in every season.
In This Episode You’ll Learn:
- How God’s priorities reshape the way we think about time and focus
- What really motivates how you spend your days (and why that matters)
- Whether a Christian’s calendar should look different than everyone else’s
- A simple, practical way to evaluate and realign how you’re spending your time
From this episode:
“Time is a finite resource, and once it’s spent—or allowed to spend itself—you never get it back. Whether we realize it or not, every one of us is already making choices about how our time is used. Our days quietly reflect what we truly value, not just what we say matters. No one accidentally ends up with the schedule they have. We choose, again and again, what gets our attention, our energy, and our lives.”

Why do some people get more done than others?
Caesar Kalinowski:Some people have a higher capacity than others.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:They just do you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:They're just running fat.
Caesar Kalinowski:Their engine, you know, it's like an eight cylinder.
Caesar Kalinowski:Some people gotta four cylinder.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's just real.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:So God's created you exactly who you're supposed to be.
Caesar Kalinowski:Believe that.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's fine.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's not even about how much stuff we get done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's about focus and intentionality.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:But so why do some people get more done?
Caesar Kalinowski:They have higher capacity.
Caesar Kalinowski:Fair enough.
Caesar Kalinowski:How about the environment you raised in?
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:If your parents were like all about getting a lot of it done, maybe not rightly motivated.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But if you kind of were raised with like that, you know, like I don't really go out and have any, you know, fun stuff till I get my chores done kind of thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause my parents were rigid about it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Then you might be that way too.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, you know, hey, Saturday is my day off, but until the whole apartment or the house is perfectly spotless, I will never Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and the problem is all that list keeps growing, but, but some people, we were just raised that way and so we get more done in life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like in that sense, we get more stuff.
Caesar Kalinowski:Done, but is the right stuff.
Heath Hollensbe:Welcome to the Everyday Disciple Podcast, where you'll learn how to live with greater intentionality and an integrated faith that naturally fits into every area of life.
Heath Hollensbe:In other words, discipleship as a lifestyle.
Heath Hollensbe:This is the stuff your parents, pastors and seminary professors.
Heath Hollensbe:Probably forgot to tell you.
Heath Hollensbe:And now here's your host, Caesar Kalinowski.
Caesar Kalinowski:Heath, you're looking really good today.
Caesar Kalinowski:Thanks, man.
Caesar Kalinowski:You dressed up, you're looking, you got a little dressed to get a collar on this.
Caesar Kalinowski:Got a polo or got a little Adidas polo.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're looking, you're looking good.
Caesar Kalinowski:My friend.
Caesar Kalinowski:Got a busy day ahead.
Heath Hollensbe:Very busy.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Editing some podcasts and worship practice and, all right, man, I'm some family time.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm excited for this.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, this is not a topic we've dealt with, but we deal with it all day in our everyday lives all the time, right?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:So today we're gonna talk about the focus and intentionality, especially when it comes to how we spend our time, our hours, our days, our weeks, our life.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh,
Caesar Kalinowski:that's like, this is like, this is our episode on time management, but, but like, we're not talking about how to jam more into your schedule or like, I don't wanna be efficient, you know, I'm gonna get up an hour earlier.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, there's plenty of guys who will teach you that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like get on that, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is actually, I wanna dress today.
Caesar Kalinowski:How do we use our time?
Caesar Kalinowski:That's not work.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, be as efficient as you can when you're working.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think, you know, like get the four hour work week book from Tim Ferriss.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like no one works four hours week.
Caesar Kalinowski:But you know, like I want to talk about what does life look like and how do we manage our time when we're like say not on the clock.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:And that's the stuff where our legacy's built and our kids' lives are changed and disciples are made and all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm not saying you can't do that at stuff at work.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Don't hear that.
Caesar Kalinowski:But we are.
Caesar Kalinowski:I wanna talk about all the artists at the time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Okay.
Heath Hollensbe:So time is very fair to all of us.
Heath Hollensbe:It's not like you get eight hours a day and I get 15 and somebody else gets 35.
Heath Hollensbe:My grandpa used to tell me that we all get equal time.
Heath Hollensbe:Some of us just tend to do a lot more with it, so
Caesar Kalinowski:right.
Caesar Kalinowski:There you go.
Caesar Kalinowski:Good advice.
Caesar Kalinowski:Grams.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, thanks, gram.
Caesar Kalinowski:So a friend of mine once told me, uh, Steve, he said, we all do exactly what we choose to do every day.
Caesar Kalinowski:Huh.
Caesar Kalinowski:Lemme just think about that because you know, I'm talking, people are like, well, that sounds good in your life, but man, I got little kids.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, well, we all do exactly what we choose to do every day.
Caesar Kalinowski:So unless you're like locked up in a prison or something, you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or like, you've been taken away as a slave.
Caesar Kalinowski:You, you know, well, I have to work this much because, you know, I got a huge mortgage.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, no, you choose to like, go live in a smaller house, live in a box.
Caesar Kalinowski:I don't, you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or like, well, you know, my food bills, it's like, or my air con, my electric bills.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, well, I don't know.
Caesar Kalinowski:Turn the air con, I mean, we all do and spend our time doing everything.
Caesar Kalinowski:We all choose to do exactly what we wanna do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that's super true.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so, yeah, I wanna talk about how we prioritize our time and focus there.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like I said already, not so much how we squeeze more into it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:There's plenty of that stuff out there.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's where I wanna go today.
Heath Hollensbe:Awesome ma'am.
Heath Hollensbe:So with us all having that equal.
Heath Hollensbe:Amount of time and some of us doing a lot more with it than others.
Heath Hollensbe:Why do you think that's the case?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Why do some people seem to be so efficient or like just getting tons done in their life?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah, I mean, you're cranking out
Caesar Kalinowski:books
Heath Hollensbe:every 30,
Caesar Kalinowski:40
Heath Hollensbe:minutes
Caesar Kalinowski:and uh, you always tell me like, man, you get more done than anybody I know.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and just so you know, and this is the condition of the heart, I sit around going like, man, I don't get nothing done.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm so lazy.
Caesar Kalinowski:You suck.
Caesar Kalinowski:No, you killer.
Caesar Kalinowski:You suck.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, get up earlier, man.
Caesar Kalinowski:What's your problem?
Caesar Kalinowski:No way.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm telling you that's the tyranny of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like.
Caesar Kalinowski:Believe the gospel seeds.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Listen to your own podcast.
Caesar Kalinowski:I know.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, well here I think.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, so technically I'm must just, I I'll get to the heart parts of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sorry, I just tipped into that.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's who I am.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh, um, I think why do some people get pe more done than others?
Caesar Kalinowski:Some people have a higher, like a higher capacity than others.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:They just do you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:They're just running fa their engine, you know, it's like an eight cylinder.
Caesar Kalinowski:Some people got a four cylinder.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's just real.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:So God's created you exactly who you're supposed to be.
Caesar Kalinowski:Believe that.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's fine.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's, yeah, it's not even.
Caesar Kalinowski:About how much stuff we get done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's about focus and intentionality.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:But so why do some people get more done?
Caesar Kalinowski:They have higher capacity.
Caesar Kalinowski:Fair enough.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, how about the environment you raised in?
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:If your parents were like all about getting a lot of it done, maybe not rightly motivated.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But if you kind of were raised with like that, you know, like.
Caesar Kalinowski:I don't really go out and have any, you know, fun stuff till I get my chores done kind of thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause my parents were rigid about it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well then you might be that way too, like, you know, hey, Saturday is my day off, but until the whole apartment or the house is perfectly spotless, I will never, you know
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and the problem is all that list keeps growing, but, but some people, we were just raised that way and so we get more done in life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like in that sense, we get more stuff done.
Caesar Kalinowski:But is it the right stuff?
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, we'll talk about that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, other reasons, um, that some people get more done than others.
Caesar Kalinowski:What about season of life?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, I know people that are just like, oh wow, they're super intentional and they're really crushing it, and now they're having a baby.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or now, hey, I've got three little kids.
Caesar Kalinowski:You got like 11 teen kids.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so
Heath Hollensbe:no, we feel that pressure.
Heath Hollensbe:Four kids.
Heath Hollensbe:It's like, I've been working on one house project for.
Heath Hollensbe:Three months it feels like.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:I don't
Caesar Kalinowski:think about it.
Caesar Kalinowski:I feel like it was just you and Kathleen would be like, Hey, I knocked that thing out like in two weekends.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Except in the last two weekends we've had a broken arm and this, and a leak in this, you know, and this fell off the house and, you know Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, all adds up.
Caesar Kalinowski:So season of life too is gonna have a, a lot to do with it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, I think though, the biggest thing is, is focus and intentionality.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay?
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, and here's, here's something that like, whoa.
Caesar Kalinowski:Heavy right time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, it's important for us to see time is a finite resource.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we have to spend it like, quote unquote, you know, and, and it has to be managed and spent like any other resource.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and here's the unique thing about time as a resource, though, it spends itself or we spend it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:You ever think about that?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like your money, you know, your money is in your pocket or in your bank account until you choose to spend it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But time.
Caesar Kalinowski:It gets spent every day.
Caesar Kalinowski:Every day.
Caesar Kalinowski:All, all 24 hours got used up.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now some of it got used up with intentional cool stuff and stuff that mattered to me and that maybe God, it would matter to God and some other things just, it didn't matter.
Caesar Kalinowski:But guess what?
Caesar Kalinowski:Every day it got done.
Caesar Kalinowski:It got spent, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I, and I'm also reminding myself like, Hey, that list of to-do list stuff, it'll all be there tomorrow.
Caesar Kalinowski:So you can choose how many of those things you wanna invest that finite amount of time into, or.
Caesar Kalinowski:I can invest in some other things.
Caesar Kalinowski:And guess what?
Caesar Kalinowski:Some of it will not have eternal implications.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or even just decade old.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's not a word.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like, you know, into my kids' lives.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But I get to choose that.
Caesar Kalinowski:But time gets to is spent just like any other resource, but it's the creepy one.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause it'll spend itself.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we gotta choose back to that thing of we all, we all choose to do exactly what we wanna do every day.
Heath Hollensbe:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Heath Hollensbe:Is this more about cutting things out of our life or just making better priorities of the things that are important to us?
Heath Hollensbe:And why, why is it that we always feel we have to say yes to
Caesar Kalinowski:everything?
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, fear of missing out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Fomo,
Heath Hollensbe:right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's a big part of like we say yes to everything.
Caesar Kalinowski:Fear of missing out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, also, uh, there's a heart issue there.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like we wanna say yes to everything to certain people.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we're quick to say no to other people, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I wanna say yes to.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, you say something, yes.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, you want me to do that?
Caesar Kalinowski:And like, I love you.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's part of my motivation to say, yes, sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But I also, I want you to like, love me and you respect me.
Caesar Kalinowski:So I'm like, oh, I, yeah, but you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's a hard issue.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, and so we, I, I think as the gospel takes root in our ho hearts and lives and we realize like getting lots done, not getting much done.
Caesar Kalinowski:I have exactly the same love from God.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:That changes it.
Caesar Kalinowski:So now I can kinda remove that from the.
Caesar Kalinowski:Equation and I can go like, okay, do I wanna do this?
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, what does God think about this?
Caesar Kalinowski:Are there other things like that's a good thing, but there's a better thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:My wife and I always say like, good is the enemy of better.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:You right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or best, but best quote unquote, in our opinion could also be the enemy of like the ordained, like, this is what God really had for you.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm over here doing this.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is good.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, this is really good.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I'm like, hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:But is it, there's a million good things.
Caesar Kalinowski:There's a million best things, but what is God?
Caesar Kalinowski:What?
Caesar Kalinowski:So I think it's a matter of prioritizing.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think it's a matter of focus and that comes back to then who sets our priorities Like, like what if God, you know, what if God really did manage our calendar and our schedules?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like see, that kind of takes right back to the garden.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, hey, you know, don't eat from the tree of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.
Caesar Kalinowski:Another name for that could be, I think, fairly would be, Hey, don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, you know right and wrong, setting your own priorities.
Caesar Kalinowski:Trust God for that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's the original sin I got this.
Caesar Kalinowski:God, like you put us in charge of everything except you're in charge of us and our schedules and how we do all that stuff you put us in charge of.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'll take that part too now.
Caesar Kalinowski:God, I'll take that off your hands.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's the original sin, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I got this apart from you and so this kind of, this whole time management issue.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm not talking about there again, you know, cramming more into your day and getting efficient.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm talking about like life management, time management in that way.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, it's really about who sets your priorities and what is our primary motivation behind how we use our time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Is it self?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Is it comfort?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, I know and, and this isn't, I'm not stoked to admit this, but I look back over my younger parenting Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I was a Christian, but I look back at my younger parenting and I, I worked really, really hard.
Caesar Kalinowski:I've always worked hard.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Got a lot done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Awful work though with my kids and my family.
Caesar Kalinowski:I did a lot of this stuff because I knew it was right and not supposed to, and that's what a good dad would do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:My secretly, my motivation often was to get to comfort, like to get to the time off to get to where no one can say anything about why are you sleeping on the couch watching, you know, the Bears game, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, you can't say that 'cause I already did all this.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:So my motivation even for doing the other stuff, which was good, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Was still self and comfort.
Caesar Kalinowski:You see what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like it was creepy.
Caesar Kalinowski:So I kept using that word a lot today.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, but that was the truth of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, um, what is it that sets our priorities?
Caesar Kalinowski:Is it and who, and is it self or comfort or is it others' opinions of us?
Caesar Kalinowski:We gotta get at that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:So
Heath Hollensbe:if we are followers of Jesus and trusting that, uh, the good news affects every area of life, um.
Heath Hollensbe:Should our schedule, should our life as followers of Jesus look different, uh, when it comes to time management than people who might not yet be following Jesus.
Heath Hollensbe:The reason I ask that is I, I noticed through scripture, Jesus, most of his miracles was like, as he was on the way somewhere, as he was walking here, he met a man, or as he was going here, a woman touched him and he always made time.
Heath Hollensbe:It wasn't like, crap, I've gotta get smart in five minutes.
Heath Hollensbe:I, I don't have time to talk with you.
Heath Hollensbe:So he, he had buffer in his schedule.
Heath Hollensbe:Should our lives as followers of Jesus look different from a simply a life and time management standpoint.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Does it, the way you described it there, I think is accurate.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like with Jesus' life from at least what we have we know and what was written.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, but doesn't it sound like, well, Jesus time management style was, I don't manage time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I like see what the father brings me in the day and then I sort of respond in his favor.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And in the person's favor.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's about making Dad look good.
Caesar Kalinowski:Because it's, he is good.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And making the other person feel blessed and understand God is the source, source of that blessing.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, that was his whole thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, so you, I mean, you kinda, you popped the lid off of something a little bit, like hard to digest.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, is my life as a believer, as a follower Christ, is it so packed with my priorities there's no room left.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:For God to ever break in.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, here I go, zoom next, you know, the next errand, like, yeah, next drop off for soccer, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Over here to get dinner started or, or whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or you back to the church, you know, office to get this done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:But I just drove past boatloads in need.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know,
Heath Hollensbe:didn't even recognize it.
Heath Hollensbe:Right.
Heath Hollensbe:You know, I remember,
Caesar Kalinowski:you know Tina one time, it's like, I'm like, Hey, it's freezing out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Where's your coat?
Caesar Kalinowski:I just gave it away, you know, I had this most amazing conversation with this mom and Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And she's gonna look a lot like me on the streets from now, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, but 'cause she took the time, you know, like Right, sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And do, do we fill up our time?
Caesar Kalinowski:So much with quote unquote, remember I was saying like, good and better and best could be the enemy of anointed in God's plan.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so, and that's not a matter of like, well, I'm gonna leave two hours a day to sit around and just hope God shows up with something.
Caesar Kalinowski:But it's, it's, it's, it's a willingness to say like, am I listening to the spirit when I set my schedule in priority?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And then do I give ultimate 'cause?
Caesar Kalinowski:I am not the spirit, and so I might not hear it perfectly.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do I give God ultimate uh.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like permission.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's, that's not so below it, but you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, do I just say, God, but you change anything about my day?
Caesar Kalinowski:Here's my, here's how my best days, weeks, months, years ago.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, I pray really hard and invite God into my scheduling of, of my calendar, my vacations, my resting, like we talked about that in episode one 19.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:About Sabbath and how do I set that priority?
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, I do that first and then I go, okay, God.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now how do I set today?
Caesar Kalinowski:But I, I completely, Lord, wanna, not that you need my permission, but I, you know, from my heart perspective, I want to give you permission to completely alter and change my day.
Caesar Kalinowski:So when I think I, I got two hours to get this done, and this person comes into my office and they're really having a bad day.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do I go like me anyway, looks back to the work?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or do I just go, God's sovereign, I'll get that done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or I'm on my way somewhere to do something and you go like, that guy's got a flat.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or she's, man, look at the kids in the car and she's got a flat, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or, and I, I'm giving really cheesy examples, but, but they're real.
Caesar Kalinowski:They happen.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, but those kinds of things and opportunities for blessing and mission, the discipling people, helping 'em move from unbelief to belief are happening all the time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, and, and there again, like what, so what are we doing even with our off time there again, that's kind of as you go.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:But do our lives look different as Christians?
Caesar Kalinowski:Just not, not when they're accidentally, you know, ordained, interrupted.
Caesar Kalinowski:But are we actually prioritizing in like, Hey, I can never have friends over or like, you know, not yet believers over 'cause like, we're just too busy and the kids gotta get to bed alone.
Caesar Kalinowski:I was like, or as believers do we like No, I actually prioritize.
Caesar Kalinowski:Having people over.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sounds, it's super packed.
Caesar Kalinowski:We, we couldn't, we couldn't afford to have people over for food.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, no, we're actually gonna trust God and we'll just make simpler food.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, because I'm noticing that most people don't care.
Caesar Kalinowski:They'd be more stoked to be over and be loved on and have soup and salad and bread.
Caesar Kalinowski:Than a steak, than a steak and like a really great bottle of wine.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like it, like both are awesome and sometimes we get to do both.
Caesar Kalinowski:But really, what if I priority my budget even like towards.
Caesar Kalinowski:The time required to be, yeah, to be more in the ways that God wants.
Caesar Kalinowski:Should our lives look different as Christians?
Caesar Kalinowski:Absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think they should.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:And it seems like some of that should be flushed out with those, like we talked, even Episode one 20, our last episode, about the importance of like Missional communities and how we do things together.
Heath Hollensbe:Like our schedules should be decided with that community in mind, where we're going, like, Hey guys, are we gonna do stuff together this summer?
Heath Hollensbe:Or.
Heath Hollensbe:Are we so slammed out for the next, what, like four?
Heath Hollensbe:Are we doing a weekly
Caesar Kalinowski:meeting as a community?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we are on this Missional, like we talked about.
Caesar Kalinowski:Please go back.
Caesar Kalinowski:Listen to the last episode.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Episode one 20.
Caesar Kalinowski:But, or are we saying no?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, increasingly we are radically reorienting our life around God's life and his priorities together.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And guess what I'm guessing at most of that?
Caesar Kalinowski:So I have to ask him a lot.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, God, what's the next week hold?
Caesar Kalinowski:What is our summer?
Caesar Kalinowski:Are we taking off, you know, our, our Missional Community is taking the summer off.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's, how do you do that from life?
Heath Hollensbe:I don't do that with my marriage or, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You can't.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:But we, we do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Which means really, it was just a weekly meeting, but, but what if we say like, Hey, summer's a different rhythm, it's a different season.
Caesar Kalinowski:What will it look like?
Caesar Kalinowski:God, what do you want us doing?
Caesar Kalinowski:And we decide that together in the summer.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:As couples, as communities and all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:And absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, that's rattle for some people.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, no, I've already planned out like we always do this.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, but what if you didn't?
Caesar Kalinowski:What if you submitted that to your community?
Caesar Kalinowski:What if you submitted that to your community and then in prayer you guys decided together, Hey, this is how, you know, we've been meeting this need over here in our neighborhood all week or all year, rather.
Caesar Kalinowski:Oh, well yeah, but this summer we're not gonna be able to do.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, why not?
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's, let's sort that out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's, let's calendar that out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's prioritize the mission over our vacations and the summer camps and what time, all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's we get to, that's all I'm saying is we get to.
Caesar Kalinowski:How do you practically plan your
Heath Hollensbe:schedule in the Kalinowski house?
Caesar Kalinowski:Alright, well, as soon as I mention something, it either sounds like I'm great, uh, or I have this nailed, or like everybody should do it the way I do it, so I'm not, I'm not, I just wanna say no.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:You sorted out.
Caesar Kalinowski:You asked the same God that dwells in you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And he'll tell you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:But so I, I want us to remember that we're deeply and perfectly loved by our father, regardless of how much we do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay?
Caesar Kalinowski:So, I'm just, I know I've said this already, this episode, but I have to keep underscoring it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause we're talking about time management, so it's like do to b, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, no, you know, we've talked about don't believe that do equals B lies.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And like, what we do does not equal our value.
Caesar Kalinowski:How much we get done, everybody's got different capacities.
Caesar Kalinowski:The, the, the, the big thing right here in the center of the, you know, bullseye today for us is.
Caesar Kalinowski:Who sets our priority?
Caesar Kalinowski:Are we checking in with God?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and who sets our schedule?
Caesar Kalinowski:And are we flexible that God might interrupt it?
Caesar Kalinowski:That's our biggest thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, so here's some things though that I do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, and I don't stick to it perfectly.
Caesar Kalinowski:I wish I was more disciplined.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You say like, I get more done than anybody.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's like, I could get a lot more done if I was a little more consistent.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, I have this sheet I've written up called My Ideal Day.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it's like, it's like a timeline of like, Hey, I really like to get up at this time, and then in my first 30 minutes, here's what I would do my ideal day.
Caesar Kalinowski:And here's what I, I check emails only these times a day.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And then I, I work on writing, you know, because I'm a writer.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I work on that before I get to anything.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause that's a high priority.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, by the way, that follows like, some working out time, taking my vitamins, quiet time, some meditation.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:I, I've actually, in my ideal day.
Caesar Kalinowski:I've, I've, and I, well, it took me months and a lot of prayer to come up with this.
Caesar Kalinowski:It really did.
Caesar Kalinowski:And submitted to others.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, I really did.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so now I look at it and it actually doesn't feel like, um, it doesn't feel like shackles or rigid.
Caesar Kalinowski:It feels like freedom.
Caesar Kalinowski:And guess what?
Caesar Kalinowski:The days that I kind of like, I just keep that on, you know, near me or on my desk or whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I kind of let it guide my day because I prayed about it at first, but I, I also gets interrupted.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:I, I every ask, you know, ask Tina, ask Joe any day that I stick to that, they go, how'd your day go?
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm like.
Caesar Kalinowski:I don't know.
Caesar Kalinowski:Very low stress.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I feel like I got a ton done.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:But this also happened and I had this amazing conversation with my neighbor, you know, or I didn't plan to have lunch with the guy, but he said, Hey, let's do it.
Caesar Kalinowski:And God said, you got time.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause it's my time, you know?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:But I still somehow stuck to the schedule.
Caesar Kalinowski:Everything got done, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so I have something called My Ideal Day, and I work it all out.
Caesar Kalinowski:And maybe someday we'll talk about how to create one of those, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, that'd be great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, if listeners are interested writing, go, like, I'd like to know how to create my ideal day.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, maybe we'll do, it'll do it.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's part of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, I also explained, like I said in episode one 19, that it's important to work from rest, not rest from work.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we, we actually prioritize rest now.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're getting better at it.
Caesar Kalinowski:We prioritize Sabbath and rest for our whole year.
Caesar Kalinowski:We plan out our vacations and family times and Tina and I were just talking this last week, like, Hey.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh, my son Caesar, who's Caesar four, is about to have Caesar five in December, and we're like losing our minds over it, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:But we said, okay, so the baby's coming about mid-December.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's not be in the middle of you writing a book this December.
Caesar Kalinowski:See?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or let's not be in the middle of a huge.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like promoting a conference or Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, or some trainings or something like that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let's, let's plan to not, you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Because we're gonna prioritize loving on the kids really well there and modeling to our friends and neighbors, like New Life and a new team K member is coming.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, and an air to the throne.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and we wanna love, you know, love on, on Mari, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:My son's wife Well and all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, so we, we thought of that like six months out.
Caesar Kalinowski:You see what I'm saying?
Caesar Kalinowski:It's cool.
Caesar Kalinowski:Instead of like, oh my gosh, the baby's here.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I can't, I'm like, I'm jammed and I'm out of town now it's Christmas and we're slammed.
Caesar Kalinowski:I committed to that, but you knew the baby was coming.
Caesar Kalinowski:Why'd you commit to it?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or why didn't you cancel it sooner?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or, you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And then it's Christmas a week later.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's part of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, yeah, it's, it's, it's that like, and also, let me give you something like that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh.
Caesar Kalinowski:If, you know, if you look at your life, there's these categories, there's, you know, these categories of life that we get to give time to.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And maybe just by sharing these with our, you know, audience, our listeners here, our friends, um, you can begin to see where your priorities lie.
Caesar Kalinowski:Which categories of your life you need to be giving more time to.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now, sometimes I can call these the five treasures because they're treasure, like they're valuable.
Caesar Kalinowski:And there again, they're all commodities.
Caesar Kalinowski:We get to invest in and spend time and all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:So here, here, here are the, here are the five, and maybe someday we'll do a whole episode on it.
Caesar Kalinowski:But, um.
Caesar Kalinowski:Spiritual life.
Caesar Kalinowski:How much time are you investing in growing in your spiritual life and how to make disciples and growing closer to God and all that?
Caesar Kalinowski:Are you given time to that or is it accidental or is that just your church attendance and then the rest of it's just, I only invest in my spiritual life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, that's your most valuable thing, by the way.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh, next most valuable is relationships.
Caesar Kalinowski:What are you doing and how are you prioritizing relational time?
Caesar Kalinowski:Next will be physical.
Caesar Kalinowski:Are you investing in your like health.
Caesar Kalinowski:And getting in shape, staying in shape, staying healthy, understanding your body.
Caesar Kalinowski:Are you investing in that?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do you give any time to it?
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, well man, it's been five years since I've, you know, been to the gym or walked around the block or, you know, sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or it's getting worse every year or whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, intellectual treasure, like, are you spending time learning?
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, do you, are you investing?
Caesar Kalinowski:Are you growing?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Are you growing and learning about the things that God's leading your heart to or things you're interested too, you know, interested in?
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and financial would be the fifth treasure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Huh?
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, are you investing time in managing and stewarding the resources God has poured into your life?
Caesar Kalinowski:Well already?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, so those five categories, spiritual, relational, physical, intellectual, and financial.
Caesar Kalinowski:Those are good categories to look at.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And like I said, we could do a whole nother episode about that coming up in the future.
Caesar Kalinowski:And if people are into it, like would you just drop us a line and say, Hey, I wanna know more about how to manage the Five Treasures, by the way too, with this week's big three.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Coming up that we're gonna talk about, I'll add in, I've got this really cool sheet called, UH, five Treasures Evaluation Tool.
Caesar Kalinowski:So you can do a quick assessment of how you have been prioritizing these five areas of your life.
Caesar Kalinowski:And.
Caesar Kalinowski:How you'd like to, like, it's a scale of one to 10, like, oh, that's cool.
Caesar Kalinowski:How much, how much treasure do I have in each of these categories?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, one to 10, where would I like it to be?
Caesar Kalinowski:And then you can begin to pray and say, Lord, how would I.
Caesar Kalinowski:How would I invest more time in my relationships?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:How would I spend more time growing in my spiritual life and my relationship with you dad?
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah,
Heath Hollensbe:dude, that's great.
Heath Hollensbe:I'm excited that that tool's gonna be included in the big three.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, and to get the big three, it's a thing we do every week.
Heath Hollensbe:The the practical takeaways, three things you can get started on right now.
Heath Hollensbe:You can get that by going to everyday Disciple dot com slash big.
Heath Hollensbe:Caesar, what are the big three for this week?
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Some of it's a recap, some of it's a little more expounding first.
Caesar Kalinowski:Know that time is a finite resource.
Heath Hollensbe:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:And once it's spent or it spends itself, you can never get it back.
Caesar Kalinowski:We don't wanna look back at our lives and go like, whoa.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mostly time spent itself.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, everyone chooses to do exactly what they want and really value to do with their time each day.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's a choice.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, know that.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's good, man.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, you know, just, that's stark reality.
Caesar Kalinowski:Second, believe that God loves you and has given you everything you need for the life he wants for you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:He will lovingly guide you in ordering your life and your calendar and your time management.
Caesar Kalinowski:If you'll ask him.
Caesar Kalinowski:He really, really will.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's cool.
Caesar Kalinowski:And for many of folks listening today, they go, I've never asked God to help me fill out my calendar.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or my, you know, I think we just haven't.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, and so I'm gonna say when you pull out your calendar or you open it up digitally, ask God what his priorities are this year, this month, today, and then be open to him changing things in your life and your schedule.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's gonna require your trust.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like it really will.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, but if I do that, Lord, then I won't get this done.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's also probably gonna reveal some possible idols, huh?
Caesar Kalinowski:Absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And then third start, and then this is for, this is for like people who are serious about this.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like they're hearing this today and they're going like, okay, uh, this is a rockstar move.
Caesar Kalinowski:Start keeping a simple time log to keep track of exactly what you spend your time on when you're not at work.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hard right now.
Caesar Kalinowski:You can easily find, you know, simple time logging templates online or get an app on your phone.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:There's tons of 'em.
Caesar Kalinowski:I just Googled it, you know, the other day, like time log, like app boom does millions of 'em.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or apps.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, this is for serious people, you know Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Who really wanna get a look at what they're spending their time on.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, what am I really spending my non-work time on?
Caesar Kalinowski:And then I wanna start to begin to reinvest and reprioritize.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, I'm surprised how much time I didn't spend here, or I did spend here.
Caesar Kalinowski:Kind of connect that to the five treasures.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it'll, right, so I wanna just challenge our listeners, start doing this today and, and do it for at least a week and two weeks is better.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it'll be, I mean, it'll be your own secret little time log, but I think it'll be stark if you're serious about time management, if God managed your calendar and then pray about it.
Caesar Kalinowski:That is
Heath Hollensbe:so cool.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, sadly, time always comes to.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, an end too quickly.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah, it is a finite resource.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, but this week for the big three, you're not only gonna get just the big three, but you're also gonna get the five Treasures evaluation tool.
Heath Hollensbe:And again, to get that for free, go to everyday Disciple dot com slash big three.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hey, Heath, we haven't said this in a while, but like, if you're digging the show and you don't wanna miss it, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Would you please do us a favor?
Caesar Kalinowski:Head over to iTunes and subscribe to the thing?
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause then they'll put it in your feed.
Caesar Kalinowski:And if you'll go ahead and rate, you know, like stars.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like lots of stars and review it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Then iTunes like helps other people see that kind of stuff and it'll encourage them.
Caesar Kalinowski:So if you're being blessed, would you do those things?
Caesar Kalinowski:I know it's gonna take some time, but I checked in with God and he said it's good.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's good to go.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's good to go.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, no, that was nice.
Heath Hollensbe:No, that's helpful.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Like you said, iTunes does look at that sort of stuff and we love this.
Heath Hollensbe:To get out to even more people.
Heath Hollensbe:Thanks for joining us today.
Heath Hollensbe:For more information on this show and to get loads of free discipleship resources, visit everyday Disciple dot com and remember, you really can live with a spiritual freedom and relational peace that Jesus promised every day.
