Not Another Small Group: How to Build a Missional Family
Starting a missional community from scratch doesn’t mean rallying your friends for another weekly meeting or trying to sell people on “doing life together.” It begins with something much deeper—and much closer to home.
In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, I’ll talk about what it really looks like to start a true missional community that feels like family and lives on mission together in the everyday stuff of life. If you’ve ever longed for more than just rows and routines, this one’s for you.
In This Episode You’ll Learn:
- What sets a missional community apart from typical small groups or Bible studies.
- Why you don’t need permission or a program to start something new.
- Why it starts with your own family rhythms, not a church calendar.
- 7 practical steps to begin forming a community that lives like family and makes disciples.
- Free Start-up Guide to get you going quickly.
From this episode:
“Mission happens in the normal stuff of life, with new friends and disciples in tow, with the Good News dripping out of your mouth and being proclaimed in every step, bite of food, and breath you take. I kinda remember when small groups came on the scene in Church World.
Heath Hollensbe:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it was a way to close the back door.
Caesar Kalinowski:And as churches were getting bigger and the sort of the rise of the megachurch, it was like, how do we feel like we know anybody?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or how do we feel like there's any kind of community?
Caesar Kalinowski:So we'll start these midweek things.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it was a way of kind of closing the back door to keep people around.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Because if you made some friends, then you would be less likely to go across the street to the other megachurch.
Caesar Kalinowski:But if you didn't.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, I don't know, look at the kids program or that guy's a better preacher, you know, whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:, So the focus was kind of self small groups.
Caesar Kalinowski:The focus was me and us.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we can be here and stay, and this is our church.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Exactly.
Caesar Kalinowski:Not evil or anything, but the difference.
Caesar Kalinowski:The Michel community, the focus is much more outward, whereas we exist for the sake of the mission, which is.
Caesar Kalinowski:Jesus' mission and given in Matthew 28, go and make disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's the mission.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Filling the world with his glory.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's how he accomplishes it is little copies of Jesus.
Caesar Kalinowski:Us disciples get made.
Caesar Kalinowski:Make more disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:Make more disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:The world is getting filled with Jesus.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that, that's the biggest difference.
Caesar Kalinowski:And a Missional Community is, you could call it a family and.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like a group of people living, like family making disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's their focus.
Heath Hollensbe:Welcome to the Everyday Disciple Podcast, where you'll learn how to live with greater intentionality and an integrated faith that naturally fits into every area of life.
Heath Hollensbe:In other words, discipleship as a lifestyle.
Heath Hollensbe:This is the stuff your parents, pastors and seminary professors.
Heath Hollensbe:Probably forgot to tell you.
Heath Hollensbe:And now here's your host, Caesar Kalinowski.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hey, how's it going today, brother?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, it's good.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's a little weird weather.
Caesar Kalinowski:We've just hit the fall here in the northwest.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, but you couldn't tell it by what's happening.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, right.
Caesar Kalinowski:I guess it is 20 degrees colder today than yesterday.
Caesar Kalinowski:It rain now, but it is, I mean, I, I can see out the window right now as we're talking and it is gorgeous.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Think we should be doing it outside our first ever.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sit out on the Caesars Patio podcast with dog barks.
Caesar Kalinowski:Cars going by.
Caesar Kalinowski:People care.
Caesar Kalinowski:Anybody care.
Caesar Kalinowski:Write in.
Caesar Kalinowski:Let us know if you care if there's background noise and we enjoy the deck more.
Caesar Kalinowski:Alright, I would
Heath Hollensbe:like that personally.
Heath Hollensbe:Hey, today we're gonna talk about Missional communities and how to start one from scratch.
Heath Hollensbe:And if you listen to the show at all, you hear us talking about Missional communities all the time.
Heath Hollensbe:It's kind of, yeah, because discipleship
Caesar Kalinowski:is the mission and that I think has to happen in community.
Caesar Kalinowski:So yeah, we're definitely ringing that bell because Yeah, I want, I wonder maybe that bears actually.
Caesar Kalinowski:Telling people a little bit why we hit that so much.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, 'cause in our mind, in my mind, it's, it's not a model.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's the way, like what we see in scripture.
Caesar Kalinowski:We'll talk a little bit about that today.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's just kind of how Jesus made disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's how we live, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so it seems to have that name now of Missional Community, but in reality it's a lifestyle.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, it's a way of
Heath Hollensbe:doing
Caesar Kalinowski:life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we keep throwing that moniker on.
Caesar Kalinowski:Maybe it's not healthy, I don't even know, but at least I think a lot of our listeners, when we say mic Missional Community, they know what we're talking about.
Caesar Kalinowski:But we're gonna even do some clarification again today.
Caesar Kalinowski:So,
Heath Hollensbe:yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:So let's jump into it.
Heath Hollensbe:Um, 'cause we've got a lot of content here packed into this, a lot to cover today.
Heath Hollensbe:Um, first question is, for those who don't know, how would you separate what a Missional Community is?
Heath Hollensbe:What differentiates it from a small group?
Heath Hollensbe:Because I've been in a lot of churches.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh.
Heath Hollensbe:Where people think they're in a Missional Community, but it's three or four people that are studying Hebrews and have been for 15 years, and they're, they're in a closed group and no one else is invited.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:That's called a Bible study.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:So how would you separate a Missional Community from what most people.
Heath Hollensbe:Might consider a small group.
Heath Hollensbe:Okay.
Heath Hollensbe:There again,
Caesar Kalinowski:titles aside.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause whatever we call it, I mean, doesn't, you know, it's not a big deal and technically a Missional Community is a smaller group of people than probably a full congregation would be.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:The, the separation is, I think is really a, is a matter of focus.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, small groups are generally, they may, I've been around a long time.
Caesar Kalinowski:I kinda remember when small groups came on the scene in church World.
Heath Hollensbe:Sure.
Heath Hollensbe:And
Caesar Kalinowski:it was a way to close the back door.
Caesar Kalinowski:As churches were getting bigger and the sort of the rise of the megachurch, it was like, how do we feel like we know anybody?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or how do we feel like there's any kind of community?
Caesar Kalinowski:So we'll start these midweek things.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it was a way of kind of closing the back door to keep people around.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Because if you made some friends, then you'd be less likely to go across the street to the other megachurch.
Caesar Kalinowski:But if you didn't.
Caesar Kalinowski:I don't know.
Caesar Kalinowski:Look at the kids program or that guy's a better preacher, you know, whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:But a Michel community.
Caesar Kalinowski:So the focus was kind of self small groups.
Caesar Kalinowski:The focus was me and us.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we can be here and stay.
Caesar Kalinowski:And this is our church.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Heath Hollensbe:Exactly.
Caesar Kalinowski:Not evil or anything, but the difference.
Caesar Kalinowski:The Michel community, the focus is much more outward.
Caesar Kalinowski:Whereas we exist for the sake of the mission, which is Jesus mission and giving in Matthew 28, go and make disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:And a Missional Community is, you could call it a family on mission.
Heath Hollensbe:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like a group of people living, like family making disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's their focus.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's not attack on, it's not an add-on to their week.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's not like, Hey, Wednesday nights when I can make it, I go to small group.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or you can't, like, you can't say Go to church.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause that's identity we church.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You can't say, I'm going to Missional Community.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's just, so the difference is, is it's, it's identity.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like we're, we're a family on mission.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Making disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:So yeah, the term, that's where it came
Heath Hollensbe:from.
Heath Hollensbe:So do you think that this, uh, way of doing things, this Missional kind of impulse is more of a biblical way of doing life together than mere church attendance and at attending like a weekly small group?
Heath Hollensbe:How do you see this modeled throughout scripture?
Heath Hollensbe:I actually, I
Caesar Kalinowski:do think it's a more biblical way.
Caesar Kalinowski:And let me go ahead and, you know, and just tick off some of our listeners right away.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think doing life.
Caesar Kalinowski:As a family on mission, like an osh, your extended family Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Whose life is oriented around what Jesus cares about.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:His kingdom.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, his glory, his father's glory.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think it's way more biblical than just merely sitting in a church service.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's not, that's not a dig against just, you know, going to church, but for so many, too many people, that's like sort of the sum total of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:2.3 times a month.
Caesar Kalinowski:We make it to a church service, but our life is not radically oriented around the mission.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Of making disciples and filling the role of God's glory.
Caesar Kalinowski:So yeah, I think, and then, and on top of that, that's what Jesus did.
Caesar Kalinowski:He hung out with a small community of people, household based, from house to house.
Caesar Kalinowski:He did go out in public, of course, with his pals right into that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But when the church is referenced anywhere in scripture, it's never a church service.
Caesar Kalinowski:It was always a household.
Caesar Kalinowski:The word is, we've talked about that before.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Folks might want to go by the way, uh, and check out some of our other episodes on Missional Community life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Today we're gonna talk about starting one from scratch.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah, I think a, I think a great one is episode 1 0 6, if you wanna start, which is finding true meaning in your small group.
Heath Hollensbe:That's kinda a transition, how to transition some things.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:And then for those who've kind of gotten stale in their Missional Community setting, episode 1 23 on how to pump up your Missional Community was another good help.
Heath Hollensbe:So episode 1 0 6, episode 1 23.
Heath Hollensbe:Both super helpful in kind of priming the pump as we move in this conversation.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, so, so back to.
Caesar Kalinowski:Back to, yes.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think it is a more biblical model because it's the only model we see throughout scripture when anytime the church is mentioned the towards ko and it was this small group of family members and close friends the people work with, and for them doing life in light of the gospel and that was their lifestyle.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, now you know, we've died Christ, you know, us loss his game.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, it's that whole like, it's everything, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:We've got a mission and that's, unfortunately, that's not.
Caesar Kalinowski:What all of Christianity has become.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's why I think it is super biblical to live this way, you know, and, and live life in a Missional Community.
Heath Hollensbe:So before we give people a way to start a Missional Community, what are some things that, uh, some disclaimers that we want people to know, right.
Heath Hollensbe:Forefront.
Heath Hollensbe:Caution.
Heath Hollensbe:Warning.
Caesar Kalinowski:Warning.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is really messy.
Caesar Kalinowski:That, that's truth.
Caesar Kalinowski:I wasn't, I wasn't even thinking that till just now.
Caesar Kalinowski:But, um, life in initial community is really messy.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause you give your life away and you, you give it to people that become family.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And you know how family life is.
Caesar Kalinowski:If it's real, if it's good, it's rich.
Caesar Kalinowski:Everybody's in your stuff.
Caesar Kalinowski:They see it.
Caesar Kalinowski:They know it.
Caesar Kalinowski:They really know you.
Caesar Kalinowski:But when it's in, when it's, they're in your stuff and they really know you in light of the gospel, it's beautiful and it's transformational, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:So Missional Community life is super messy.
Caesar Kalinowski:I will just say that.
Caesar Kalinowski:But it is the life that Jesus modeled and gave, and it's the only model we see throughout the whole New Testament.
Caesar Kalinowski:So I'm gonna say.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's the life we should and get to live.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:The other thing is, uh, before we get started is I want people to, to really know that starting a Missional Community starts in your home.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's not like you throw a lasso around a bunch of friends, you get 'em to read my book, transform, and you go, we're doing that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like a Missional Community starts in your home, being a family, living the rhythms of life on mission.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Being a family that's worth joining.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like some pe you know how some people, you've had friends growing up and like everybody just wants to be at their house.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause their family was great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, that's how we get to be.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's, you know what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, we're, we're God's kids.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like Dad owns it all.
Caesar Kalinowski:Jesus is our brother.
Caesar Kalinowski:We, you know, we have Holy Spirit.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, okay, we need to be families worth joining.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and you know what?
Caesar Kalinowski:We need to be families worth imitating because discipleship's the mission.
Caesar Kalinowski:And if we're not living a lifestyle that helps people move from unbelief to belief in every area of life all there is.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Then what, what are they gonna imitate?
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, I can imitate that guy's job 'cause he makes a buttload of money, but his marriage sucks.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, I can't imitate.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's what I'm saying, sort of the, the upfront thing is initial community starts in, in the mirror, it starts in your home.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and, and, you know, also side note, even if you're not married, you know, or don't live in a family environment, you know, like, so I don't have kids yet, or I, I'm single, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, you, you can still be that family with other people.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I, and I know too many people that are not married.
Caesar Kalinowski:But they have built families, they've built out oikos.
Caesar Kalinowski:These are the people we do life with.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we live like a family.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we invite a people to a place at the table.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and our lives are worth imitating and it's beautiful.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that's the kingdom.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:So even though, you know, I kind of speak primarily, 'cause most of our listeners are probably married with kids and I know they're not all, and some people, their kids have already left and they're going, man, like I'm, you know, like empty nesting.
Caesar Kalinowski:I wanna start a Missional Community.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do I need to have kids?
Caesar Kalinowski:No.
Caesar Kalinowski:Not at all.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:But you still need to think family is at the center of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:What what we're doing in others as we Disciple them, is we're replicating God's family life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:In theirs.
Caesar Kalinowski:So guess where it has to start first?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Us.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, if our family isn't that, then, you know, it's like the preacher who preaches something doesn't live it and Jesus had something to say about that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like Pharisees.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we don't want to, that's, there's your caveats before
Heath Hollensbe:we get rolling here.
Heath Hollensbe:You know, at the, at the, at the.
Heath Hollensbe:Task of like exhausting past episodes.
Heath Hollensbe:It reminds me of the call of making disciples is for everybody.
Heath Hollensbe:And we talked about that in, uh, episode one 13 with introverts and extroverts.
Heath Hollensbe:And there's some people that are like, well, the Missional life, that's pretty cool for, uh, for your family, but I'm just a single guy.
Heath Hollensbe:I'm older, it's not for me.
Heath Hollensbe:Or, I'm an introvert, that's not for me.
Heath Hollensbe:And you go like, no, Jesus didn't go like.
Heath Hollensbe:Here's the terms of agreement for how to make disciples, or who I'm calling to make disciples.
Heath Hollensbe:That was everybody's challenge, and I think
Caesar Kalinowski:that's part of why we see such a diversity in the 12 disciples that he called.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, it's like the most mismatched group of people.
Caesar Kalinowski:You, you never would pick these 12 guys.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's right.
Caesar Kalinowski:You never would.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, it's like worldview.
Caesar Kalinowski:Crazy.
Caesar Kalinowski:Completely different lifestyle, different jobs, family, some not family, some may not, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, no, you would never,
Heath Hollensbe:you would never pick those 12 guys.
Heath Hollensbe:So a lot of our listeners are going, Hey, we've heard you talk about Missional Community life.
Heath Hollensbe:We maybe are feeling the Holy Spirit calling us to kind of get started here.
Heath Hollensbe:And on this episode, we promise that we'd show people steps to start one from scratch.
Heath Hollensbe:So this is gonna be the bulk of our time on this episode is talking about how we do start this thing from scratch.
Heath Hollensbe:So why don't we jump into that?
Heath Hollensbe:Well, this,
Caesar Kalinowski:uh, what I'm gonna share here is I've tried to a while back myself and a bunch of leaders and people that we do training with and help people start Missional communities and plant churches and live this as a lifestyle.
Caesar Kalinowski:We said, what if someone asked us what are the most core, basic things that like, without these.
Caesar Kalinowski:The rest of it wouldn't matter.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like, we're sure gonna go out and start soup kitchens and concert hall and we're gonna give out clothing and like, you know, great.
Caesar Kalinowski:But let me just, let me, what would, if we boiled it down to like irreducible beginning steps, what would they be?
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so, um, I came up with seven of them.
Caesar Kalinowski:Great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Another seven.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's a great biblical number.
Caesar Kalinowski:I love it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Anyway, like, these are basics.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like really, and they're gonna sound, they're gonna sound oversimplified.
Caesar Kalinowski:I think some of our listeners are gonna go like, dude.
Caesar Kalinowski:Come on.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's it.
Caesar Kalinowski:These are the seven, like most like primary starting points that Yeah, they really are.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we've helped thousands and thousands of peoples do this,
Heath Hollensbe:so it really is.
Heath Hollensbe:But hey, and just so you're not stressing out, you don't have to write these down right this second.
Heath Hollensbe:We're gonna include these in the big three this week, and we'll get to that.
Heath Hollensbe:Also be like writing the
Caesar Kalinowski:show notes.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Just enjoy this and here we go.
Caesar Kalinowski:So here's the first one.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:The first of the seven moves.
Caesar Kalinowski:As we say, we need to learn to articulate a much bigger gospel.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:One that touches every area of life today.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it's truly good news.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we've talked about that.
Caesar Kalinowski:We talked about it a couple episodes back and making the gospel, you know, beautiful, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:And all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:And we talk about it a lot.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, so often our proclamation in our articulation of the gospel, the good news about Jesus life, death than resurrection seems to have more to do with a person's afterlife than this life and.
Caesar Kalinowski:People wanna understand how Jesus and being a follower of his will affect their marriages and their parenting, and their finances, and their identity, and their spending habits.
Caesar Kalinowski:Can you tell them?
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we need to start out by getting, you know, a, a much bigger gospel perspective.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And learning to articulate the beauty of that and the good news into every area of life.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's great.
Caesar Kalinowski:So you know, growing your gospel fluency, and you'll find that people will not only understand what you're seeing, but they'll want to know more.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:They really, really will.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's the most basic step.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're like, yeah, but how's that help me start anything.
Caesar Kalinowski:Here's, if you don't have a big Gospel, you're just starting another event.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're just starting another churchy event that will soon become a weekly meeting with a small little gospel at the center of it.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's why that's the very first thing is grow in your gospel
Heath Hollensbe:fluency.
Heath Hollensbe:And if you need help with that episode one 30 on how to make the gospel beautiful and relatable.
Heath Hollensbe:Was it?
Heath Hollensbe:There it is.
Heath Hollensbe:Thank you.
Heath Hollensbe:Perfect.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Alright, so
Caesar Kalinowski:next one.
Caesar Kalinowski:Next step of the seven.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is people are gonna go what?
Caesar Kalinowski:Really make your own family dinners more meaningful and make 'em like an attractive door into community for others.
Caesar Kalinowski:I can't believe how many times people will say to us like, yeah, our family will barely ever eat together.
Caesar Kalinowski:We'll have people over and sit down at the table and have a meal.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:And even my adult kids will be there and they'll be like, man, we never do this, huh?
Caesar Kalinowski:And when the kids were being raised like, we never did this, it's like.
Caesar Kalinowski:So many Christians just fall right into the busyness of life thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I, I wanna tell you, like after getting a bigger gospel, this is next core thing is start having a regular family dinner night.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, because your family meal times are the best opportunity you have for discipling your kids
Heath Hollensbe:mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And each other, and, and those that God has called you to make disciples among.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now, any, any day of, you know, any meal of the day can be special.
Caesar Kalinowski:So maybe it's not always dinner time, you know, like.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's, you know, things, but pick a meal.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's sort of your family dinner time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, your family meal once a week and intentionally bring fun, bring some learning, you know, and the kingdom of God to bear in tangible ways.
Caesar Kalinowski:And I'm not saying you do a Bible study at the table.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm just saying that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Your family dinners can be these most amazing times together.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's cool.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, and, and we do teaching training on that, believe it or not, just how to have a family dinner.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You, we do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Because people don't really know.
Caesar Kalinowski:They're like, well, I don't know.
Caesar Kalinowski:We just fight and we eat whatever.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Or all people will say, we don't have a meal, we just grab one.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're hungry.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and that's not simple.
Caesar Kalinowski:How's that working for you?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'm saying you were, what are you inviting people into?
Caesar Kalinowski:If you wanna start a Michel community when you don't even have a good family dinner night yet.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:That is your, that is like ground zero training ground.
Caesar Kalinowski:That will be the thing that you're gonna start to model.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that'll be like a really attractive door.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like it's a, you know, you know our family well enough.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like a big deal to get invited to like a team K dinner.
Caesar Kalinowski:Absolutely people want to come 'cause it's a freaking party.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're not fighting about stuff.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's always generous.
Caesar Kalinowski:There's always tons of everything.
Caesar Kalinowski:There's always a place you can bring someone without needing like the heads up at like spring them.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's cool.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's what your family dinner can set the, you know, sort of set the pattern for.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's appealing, man.
Caesar Kalinowski:Start at home, man.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, start at home.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's great.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's number two.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Number three.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, start to find natural places in your city or in your neighborhood that are a perfect fit for you to make new friends and build relationships.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:So often we think, you know, a Missional Community.
Caesar Kalinowski:There again, we're gonna throw a lasso around a bunch of our church friends and we kind of do the holy huddle and start thinking, talking Missional, but then what?
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, no, no, no.
Caesar Kalinowski:Remember I said the difference between that and a small group is the outward focus of things.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:This idea that the mission is to make disciples so.
Caesar Kalinowski:A third step is, okay, so you're getting growing in your gospel, you're starting to have your own family meal times.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're starting to get rich and fun and sort of a picture of the kingdom.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now start finding some places like a pub or a cafe or, I don't know, a park or gym.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh.
Caesar Kalinowski:CrossFit box, whatever, and start finding your place that you're gonna, you know, frequent frequenting, a cafe, favorite restaurant, a park.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that gives you the opportunity to meet people that live near you.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's why that's key.
Caesar Kalinowski:Do like, do it near you and the good chance they have similar interests and they may be open to new relationships.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, you know, where do people go to have a good time and make or be with friends in your neighborhood?
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, pick, pick, pick a place, ask good questions.
Caesar Kalinowski:When you're there, listen.
Caesar Kalinowski:Live generously.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, I would say like, you wanna make a a bunch of friends, listen, well.
Caesar Kalinowski:Buy around every once in a while and tip, just tip generously.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:And you, you'll be like the life of the party, you know?
Heath Hollensbe:We'll set intentionality too.
Heath Hollensbe:Like when I go grocery shopping, I'll wait in a longer line just so I can be with the same people that I, you know, same clerks, same checkout.
Heath Hollensbe:I know their story and I'm also, I keep a running list in my iPhone of.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, like pint, defiance.
Heath Hollensbe:When I go have a beer, I know Barry's my, my bar keep.
Heath Hollensbe:And there you go.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:And so I write it in my notes and yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:Conversation.
Heath Hollensbe:As I get in the car before I head home, I take some notes over what happened and the next time Perfect intentionality.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:When you walk in, you go
Caesar Kalinowski:like, and something else you say was key there is you, you want, you want to be in the, with the same people, the same place.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like when you pick a place.
Caesar Kalinowski:You don't go like, well, that's my place, but I go Tuesday morning and then I, every other week I go out Thursday night after, you know, after soccer practice.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's like, wait.
Caesar Kalinowski:Develop a rhythm there.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, develop a rhythm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like pick your night, pick your daytime, pick whatever you do, go to the same.
Caesar Kalinowski:You'll start hitting that same staff.
Caesar Kalinowski:You'll start hitting those same people in rhythm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that's what you wanna do.
Caesar Kalinowski:And remember though, not every people group will be a good fit for you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, age and stage of life, ethnicity, social strata, all that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Maybe a win or it could be a challenge.
Caesar Kalinowski:So go for fit.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like if you just like, listen, man, I don't play soccer, so I'm not joining a soccer league, but if soccer's your jam, then join a soccer league and start building friendships there, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or coach one.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And actually, or There you go.
Caesar Kalinowski:Welcome everybody to the table.
Caesar Kalinowski:Exactly.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so, you know, ask God to guide you and give you insights.
Caesar Kalinowski:Into like finding your place.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:But, but you're not gonna, you're not gonna accidentally make disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:I've just been sitting on my couch gonna church for years and years and years and just waiting for that doorbell to ring and one day someone's gonna ring it and say, please Disciple me.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're like, no, it's not happening.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:All right.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, okay, so that's three four.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, identify which of your new friends, you know, when you're out meeting them are leaning into relationship and a possible faith journey with you.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sometimes we refer these as People of Peace.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:From Jesus's teaching in Luke.
Caesar Kalinowski:But, but you, not everybody is gonna be someone who's gonna be.
Caesar Kalinowski:Open to being discipled.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or God has appointed them, you know, for you to Disciple or bring to faith.
Caesar Kalinowski:Not everybody, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So we're gonna have lots of acquaintances and work friendships and all that kinda stuff that we wanna be a witness to.
Caesar Kalinowski:In other words, we, we have the spirit of God in us and we live out this lifestyle, but we're looking for which of our friends that God's brought to us are leaning into relationship.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, and these are people that God has divinely appointed for you.
Caesar Kalinowski:To Disciple and do life with.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay?
Caesar Kalinowski:So these People of Peace, um, seem, you know, they'll, you'll know 'em because they seem kind of easy to make friends with.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, they're open to you.
Caesar Kalinowski:They like you.
Caesar Kalinowski:They, they know of your faith.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's part of who you are.
Caesar Kalinowski:That doesn't weird 'em out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, they wanna be around you.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's not tough.
Caesar Kalinowski:And you go, Hey, you wanna go do this?
Caesar Kalinowski:And they're like, yeah, I can go do that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:You wanna come do this next week?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I'll go do that with you.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's easy, you know, super easy.
Caesar Kalinowski:And right now I know that people are listening to this.
Caesar Kalinowski:They're thinking like, I got people like that in my life.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:They were just kind of easy to build relationships.
Caesar Kalinowski:They were leaning in.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:As we say to relationship versus leaning away.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so.
Caesar Kalinowski:Often these special people look to serve you, by the way.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Early in the relationship.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's another thing with a person of peace.
Caesar Kalinowski:They're not only leaning into relationship.
Caesar Kalinowski:It seems like they often are going outta their way to help you serve something and there's a reciprocity there.
Caesar Kalinowski:Rep, what's the word?
Caesar Kalinowski:Reciprocity.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, I know what you're saying.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:They serve you and now they feel like, great, I'm in a good place in a relationship and you can, you know, they can receive now.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, right.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, that's how like
Heath Hollensbe:a lot of people are so.
Heath Hollensbe:That was hard for me to get initially.
Heath Hollensbe:'cause I'm like, no, I'm, I'm the Jesus guy.
Heath Hollensbe:I need to be the servant.
Heath Hollensbe:But you're like, no, my neighbor's offering to serve me and take my stuff to the, to the dump for me and generally makes
Caesar Kalinowski:them more open to receive from you.
Caesar Kalinowski:And you go, Hey, lemme give you a hand with that.
Caesar Kalinowski:And they're like, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's trying to help them with that.
Caesar Kalinowski:You see what I mean?
Caesar Kalinowski:Let 'em serve you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So let 'em serve you.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and you know, another note here, you're not looking to gather a crowd.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're keep your eyes open for those few people who may be ready for a deeper spiritual relationship.
Caesar Kalinowski:Now you notice the order here.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is the fourth step.
Caesar Kalinowski:This comes after.
Caesar Kalinowski:Growing in your gospel, starting to have some stuff going on at home that's worth people coming to Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:Finding a place that you can kind of be a part of that community, find your place, a pub, a cafe, the gym, or whatever, and now you're starting to watch for certain types of relationships that are, mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:That are popping, that are starting to happen, and you're starting to build relationships with those few people.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, number five.
Caesar Kalinowski:Number five, learn to trust the Holy Spirit to guide your next steps with people.
Caesar Kalinowski:Then also together as a community, as you, as your community starts to form.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, you know, we're always wondering like, what do I do now with these folks that are hanging around?
Caesar Kalinowski:Like, I started hanging out in a place and I was nice to people and some people started leaning in, what do I do with 'em?
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So as you start building relationships with others, you might feel stressed out not knowing how to love them.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well, yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or how do I start Disciple 'em?
Caesar Kalinowski:And often you, you know, people will find it hard to start a new endeavor like this because we don't, we don't know all the steps before we get started.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:So.
Caesar Kalinowski:I wanna suggest you, we've gotta learn to start asking God, so what's next with my relationship with this person?
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:What's next with this group of people?
Caesar Kalinowski:And believe it.
Caesar Kalinowski:God will tell you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:God will tell you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Ask God to show you not like the next 10 steps.
Caesar Kalinowski:Just ask.
Caesar Kalinowski:The very next step you need to take with that person and, and know this is all before you've started the Michel community.
Caesar Kalinowski:Notice I'm giving you like basics.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:This is starting from scratch.
Caesar Kalinowski:You've identified some key people.
Caesar Kalinowski:What do I do with 'em?
Caesar Kalinowski:I don't, I don't know, but God is super clear on it.
Caesar Kalinowski:So.
Caesar Kalinowski:Learning to trust the Holy Spirit, and we got a cool episode coming up on the Holy Spirit a few weeks.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's doing great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, it's awesome learning to trust the Holy Spirit to guide your next steps with people.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's amazing.
Caesar Kalinowski:You'll just sort like, I can't believe how well that conversation went and you know, I, God seemed like God said do this with this person, and we did, and they all of a sudden they were like.
Caesar Kalinowski:Totally opening up their whole world and their heart to me, and they invited us to go do this and I don't know what was next.
Caesar Kalinowski:So I just asked God, he said, do
Heath Hollensbe:this next, and like it's so, so much more fun and creative
Caesar Kalinowski:man,
Heath Hollensbe:because we always have that agenda, right?
Heath Hollensbe:Like, well, we need to figure out what we need to tell him about the cross.
Heath Hollensbe:It's like I remember a conversation with a guy who was going through some major crap, and I remember.
Heath Hollensbe:I'm getting ready to do my Gospel spiel, like I was always told.
Heath Hollensbe:And, and the spirit said like, that's not the best news right now.
Heath Hollensbe:The good news is just to be there as a listener, you know?
Heath Hollensbe:So don't always try to rush, evangelizing i'll, that conversation is time.
Heath Hollensbe:Trust, trust, if you're asking.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Alright.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, so losing the anxiety over moving relationships towards spiritual discussions Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:By asking God what the very next steps are.
Caesar Kalinowski:Exactly.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, that was five sixth.
Caesar Kalinowski:Start to create predictable patterns and environments in your life for relational growth that are really inviting and help people wanna join you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, so, you know, life in a initial community is life together in the family of God, God's our father, and he expects, expects us to treat other people like family too.
Caesar Kalinowski:So.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're gonna need to start to mirror all of the patterns and rhythms of a healthy family and what it would be like if you were to invite just one or two, you know, not yet believers, these People of Peace to share that life with you.
Caesar Kalinowski:Huh?
Caesar Kalinowski:To share a meal with you each week.
Caesar Kalinowski:So they're not moving in, they're not living in your back pocket.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:But you need to start creating predictable patterns.
Caesar Kalinowski:So like, here's an example I give, um.
Caesar Kalinowski:What if you started having one meal a week, was it like an open table, meaning anybody you ran into or all your people at peace that are kind of in your life now and swimming around and kinda leaning in?
Caesar Kalinowski:Just go, you know, Thursday nights we, we have a meal and then we watch, this is us, you know, whatever, and ball our eyes out, you know?
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so you want to come over and do that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like a predictable pattern is something that comes up over and over.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:And it's a part of normal life.
Caesar Kalinowski:And you're starting to add those intentionally so that those relationships now move from wherever we met.
Caesar Kalinowski:Was it the gym or the cafe, or in the neighborhood, but it's across the street to now they're starting to join in normal.
Caesar Kalinowski:Healthy family rhythms.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mm-hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's not like you're necessarily having 'em join your family dinner night, but you might.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:But you might have several of these types of people.
Caesar Kalinowski:So you start doing an additional rhythm and pattern where you have an open table or you have a brunch, or you have a game night or whatever it is, whatever your jam is.
Caesar Kalinowski:But it's a predictable pattern that people can start to join.
Caesar Kalinowski:Love that.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay.
Caesar Kalinowski:It might be a serving opportunity that you're doing on a regular basis and you're like just starting to gather those people a piece.
Caesar Kalinowski:And every Saturday morning we go and we do this together.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:And they're loving it.
Caesar Kalinowski:And that's bridged into a whole bunch of other organic meals together.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:And a phone call and let's go see this game and let's go to a show and Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that's predictable patterns.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're gonna have to start doing that little by little.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's beautiful.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, seventh.
Caesar Kalinowski:The seventh step to starting Missional Community from scratch is then, now that there are some of these people in your life that are People of Peace, right?
Caesar Kalinowski:They're leaning in, they're starting to live more and more rhythms with you and kind of see and taste.
Caesar Kalinowski:The gospel in the flesh is, is you're gonna need to learn how to start to teach the word of God to them in powerful but simple ways that are immediately reproducible and fun.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Tall order.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:Well this is why, and, and we've talked about this on, on the show before.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um.
Caesar Kalinowski:You can do this through story and through the story of God so easily.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's a baseline thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's number seven, but it's like the first, to me, that's the first real domino that ticks into like, now God's built all these new six other things into our life and rhythms, and now what we're gonna do is.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're gonna start to, you know, by trusting God, which of these people are ready for this?
Caesar Kalinowski:We're gonna start taking 'em through the story as a way to introduce him to God's overarching themes and his love and his character 'cause.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause Remember, the mission is a Missional Community.
Caesar Kalinowski:The mission is to what?
Caesar Kalinowski:Discipleship.
Caesar Kalinowski:So true.
Caesar Kalinowski:Discipleships built on the words and the ways and the works of Jesus.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so learning to teach.
Caesar Kalinowski:Bible and in and sort of pass on kingdom patterns and understanding in a reproducible way.
Caesar Kalinowski:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's gonna be foundational to a Missional Community and it's going to be, you'll never make mature disciples without those types of foundations.
Caesar Kalinowski:So I really strongly recommend learning to teach through the story of God.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, we've got materials on my website.
Caesar Kalinowski:We'll put links also in the show notes here.
Caesar Kalinowski:But if you go to Caesar Kalinowski dot com, you can get 'em for free.
Caesar Kalinowski:Just looking around under resources, and we've got 10 week study called The Story Formed Way.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's great.
Caesar Kalinowski:Thousands and thousands of people downloaded that thing and I dunno how many people have been through it.
Caesar Kalinowski:Um, it's all free.
Caesar Kalinowski:It will
Heath Hollensbe:jack you up
Caesar Kalinowski:too.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, yeah, we just got to do the story together too.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's beautiful.
Caesar Kalinowski:So it's so unreal.
Caesar Kalinowski:Talk about simple and reproducible, but how and attractive, like this is good news for the first time.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so I, I really, I know of no other method really of teaching the Bible and helping people sort of step into faith without it being weird or heavy handed.
Caesar Kalinowski:You know, like, like guy, guy across the street that's not really sure if he wants to go to church or anything, but he's not afraid of your spirituality.
Caesar Kalinowski:He's kinda leaning into relationship.
Caesar Kalinowski:You're like, Hey, you wanna do, you wanna do a study on Romans?
Caesar Kalinowski:You're like, no, not interesting.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, but the story I'm telling you is
Heath Hollensbe:powerful.
Caesar Kalinowski:It is super powerful.
Caesar Kalinowski:So that.
Caesar Kalinowski:That is the seven step, because that's sort of the tipping point.
Caesar Kalinowski:And, and there again folks, you know, they're having a hard time remembering all these, we're gonna give you this all in download, but these seven proven steps, they may seem simple or even a little obvious, but they're just the beginning.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:But they're foundational.
Caesar Kalinowski:And like I said, we came up with these, it's like, okay, I can give you whole structures on how we've mapped out.
Caesar Kalinowski:How Michel communities have multiplied and we develop our leaders and then how that's become congregations and that's become citywide networks of churches.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:I mean, we, we've done all that and we help people do all that, but if you don't have these seven steps, these seven moves down.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:None of the rest of it will ever happen.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Or it'll happen as completely just programming.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:We programmed a bunch of things.
Caesar Kalinowski:People do.
Caesar Kalinowski:Mostly Christians and the impulse, the outwardness, to invite into the family of God's rhythms of life was never there.
Caesar Kalinowski:That's why these are the seven basic steps starting from scratch.
Caesar Kalinowski:It's
Heath Hollensbe:beautiful, man.
Heath Hollensbe:Beautiful.
Heath Hollensbe:Hey, so also if as if we haven't given away enough, we also have the big three for this week, and we do that every week, which is a free download.
Heath Hollensbe:We give about three things we want people to take away with right now, and you can get those as well as the seven steps.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, by going to everyday Disciple dot com slash Big three.
Heath Hollensbe:Caesar, what are the big three for this week?
Caesar Kalinowski:Alright, I'm gonna run through these quick.
Caesar Kalinowski:We're running late.
Caesar Kalinowski:Go for it.
Caesar Kalinowski:First one, your family is, is an amazing place to begin when starting your Missional Community.
Caesar Kalinowski:Okay, so these are sort of like the three big takeaways of everything you just said.
Caesar Kalinowski:Live as a family, worth joining and imitating.
Caesar Kalinowski:So begin at the beginning in your own lives, trying to organize like everything else and other people into a series of activities and events that you and those closest to you aren't already living is just gonna stress you out.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Set up for failure.
Caesar Kalinowski:So, start.
Caesar Kalinowski:With your family, which is the easiest to organize.
Caesar Kalinowski:Absolutely.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And transform and, and it's our calling, you know.
Caesar Kalinowski:Uh, secondly, we all long for a family, a brother or sister who will lay down their life and a place where we can be ourselves.
Caesar Kalinowski:And when we live out of our true identity as God's family.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yep.
Caesar Kalinowski:We offer that very thing.
Caesar Kalinowski:To people, to a waiting and watching world.
Caesar Kalinowski:And increasingly, you know, people around you are more likely to join you for a meal or coffee or a game night or something than they are to go to church with you, quote unquote.
Heath Hollensbe:Hmm.
Caesar Kalinowski:Right.
Caesar Kalinowski:And so that's great.
Caesar Kalinowski:The daily rhythms of your life together is the perfect soil for making disciples.
Caesar Kalinowski:Sure.
Caesar Kalinowski:Your family life.
Caesar Kalinowski:And there again, I'm not saying it has to be bio kids, I'm say, but a family.
Caesar Kalinowski:I oikos.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Third, third, big three is take these seven steps toward Mission Living and get started today.
Caesar Kalinowski:The first one's growing in your gospel fluency.
Caesar Kalinowski:So you know, you don't have to go anywhere to do that.
Caesar Kalinowski:And this next one's starting to have a family dinner night so that, you know, get started on these today, get together as a family, maybe get, maybe get a few of your friends together and share these seven steps with them.
Caesar Kalinowski:And then kind of prayerfully get started.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:Like maybe if a two or three families just started to little by little move through these seven steps together, they'd actually have a Missional Community forming.
Caesar Kalinowski:'cause they'd all have those basics down.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah.
Caesar Kalinowski:So mission happens in the normal stuff of life.
Caesar Kalinowski:With disciples in toe and the good news just dripping outta your mouth and being proclaimed.
Caesar Kalinowski:In every bite of food and every step you take and every breath.
Heath Hollensbe:That's good, man.
Heath Hollensbe:Okay, thanks for those big three.
Heath Hollensbe:Again, if you want those, you can get those by going to everyday Disciple dot com slash big three.
Heath Hollensbe:You're also gonna get the starting an mc, which is the Michel Community, starting a Missional Community from scratch.
Heath Hollensbe:Eide, that's all included this week.
Heath Hollensbe:Yep.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, lots of freebies this week.
Heath Hollensbe:Yeah, that's great.
Heath Hollensbe:Thanks for your time.
Heath Hollensbe:Uh, next week we're talking about the seven pillars of culture and how we can change the world
Caesar Kalinowski:once you see these things.
Caesar Kalinowski:Yeah, this is, figure out your slot and yeah.
Heath Hollensbe:This is so fun and it's so easy.
Heath Hollensbe:Tune in next week and learn how to change the world, but we are, we're gonna, we're gonna do it.
Heath Hollensbe:Thanks for joining us today.
Heath Hollensbe:For more information on this show and to get loads of free discipleship resources, visit everyday Disciple dot com and remember.
Heath Hollensbe:You really can live with a spiritual freedom and relational peace that Jesus promised every day.
