You know, at the end of the day, when you're just kind of fried and you know, you've got that one more meeting or end of the day and someone calls and says, I could really use a hand with ax and you go like, man, I want to be Missional and live like a family.
Caesar:So, oh, I know.
Caesar:I'll pray and ask the spirit for strength and you do, and you pray, oh, holy spirit.
Caesar:I'm so fried right now.
Caesar:I'm tired of, you know, the day I've had.
Caesar:And I'm sure it was from you and your sovereign.
Caesar:Could I just have some strength right now?
Caesar:And if you throw in a dash of good attitude to go with it, I'd love to go serve them.
Caesar:And I found the spirit shows up every day.
Caesar:Oh like really like, boom, I'm revived, like seriously, every time I've ever prayed that.
Caesar:And usually he throws in the dash a good attitude to go with it.
Caesar:Then this is the Duh factor.
Caesar:Then it dawned on me this year.
Caesar:Why go through your whole day and your own strength.
Caesar:And then when you finally tap out, pray and ask for some holy Spirit's strength to get through that last part.
Caesar:Why not try this.
Caesar:Why not start your day by going holy spirit.
Caesar:I want to do this day in your strength and power.
Caesar:I think the day holds X, Y, and Z.
Caesar:It's yours to reorder it.
Caesar:Will.
Caesar:I want to do all this in your strength.
Caesar:None of mine.
Caesar:I only want to say what I hear you say.
Caesar:Amen.
Caesar:Guess what happens then?
Caesar:You get that strength for the whole day.

Caesar:I was giving in the past to a group of leaders though, this applies to all of us and you can tell, I get pretty excited.
Caesar:I start really going for it.
Caesar:Okay.
Caesar:I get passionate, but this is important.
Caesar:And we pick up the talk today with part two, thinking about what it looks like to be both hearers of the word and doers of the word, listening and obeying God's call and commands to us, his family.
Caesar:So listen in, I'll be back at the end with some thoughts and I'll wrap up with the big three for today.
Caesar:Now what you believe thirdly, with your hands or with your life.
Caesar:Okay.
Caesar:It's kind of a weird way of saying it.
Caesar:Well, what you believe with your hands?
Caesar:What we've realized as a church, we do a pretty good job.
Caesar:Usually it filling up the head, lots of knowledge.
Caesar:We're starting to wake up to like, does anybody believe any of this stuff?
Caesar:But usually it's not getting lived out and let's go back to what Jesus said.
Caesar:The mission was to make disciples of mine, teaching them to obey all I've commanded.
Caesar:Wouldn't it be awesome.
Caesar:And I've heard it.
Caesar:I've heard.
Caesar:I don't know who it was that did it.
Caesar:Wouldn't be awesome.
Caesar:If you just got up at the end, you know, Sunday pastors and just said, I'm just going to preach last week's message again, because y'all, ain't living.
Caesar:Somebody did this.
Caesar:They preached the same message for like 10 weeks until they saw change.
Caesar:Not saying they should do that, but I've had to have that conversation in my own Missional Community.
Caesar:Hey, when are we going to get back to some deep teach in our Missional Community?
Caesar:Like, what do you mean?
Caesar:Like, you know, really studying, like we, like, we used to, like, what do you mean?
Caesar:We'll remember when we did that study a few months back on James or whatever.
Caesar:We'll see, we haven't been very faithful to live out any of that.
Caesar:So be honest with you.
Caesar:I'm not going to spend my time to prep up some more teaching that you can bedisobedient to.
Caesar:How about we just repent and get back to like being obedient to that?
Caesar:Faithful, the little faithful with a lot.
Caesar:How about we go back to that?
Caesar:See scripture says, right, James says, be hearers and do.
Caesar:So are you being obedient?
Caesar:Are your people being obedient to the call of discipleship too?
Caesar:Some people will nod their head.
Caesar:Oh yeah.
Caesar:They'll quote it, Matthew.
Caesar:Yeah.
Caesar:Boy here is, as I've been sent.
Caesar:So I sent you, I've heard all the pastor I've heard all pastor.
Caesar:Do you believe that?
Caesar:Yes.
Caesar:Yes, I do.
Caesar:Have you radically reinvented your life around that and not so much, so don't really believe it with their hands, with their life.
Caesar:We have an, we have an online assessment we do for discipleship, that measures sort of head heart, hands in every sort of category of discipleship.
Caesar:And it's amazing to look at the distortion for what they know and what they'll actually what they believe with their head, but what they believe with their hands is so different.
Caesar:Or sometimes it's the other way, what they believe with their hands are out living it like crazy, but they don't believe in their heart.
Caesar:So, and I know it's legalism, so I got to go and give them some gracesome.
Caesar:What do they believe with their lives?
Caesar:What about this?
Caesar:Jesus said in Luke 1433, any of you who does not give up everything, he has cannot be my disciple.
Caesar:Wow.
Caesar:Thanks Jesus.
Caesar:Any of you who does not give up everything, he has cannot be my disciple.
Caesar:How are we doing at being obedient to that?
Caesar:Are we just calling people to be obedient to what Jesus has commanded.
Caesar:Not our programs, not our vision, just his simple call.
Caesar:there; simple.
Caesar:And we, and we teach around that.
Caesar:Well, what he's really saying here is any of you who you should be willing to give up all that you have.
Caesar:It's not our stuff.
Caesar:I, I say this to our people all the time.
Caesar:How many of you came into the world?
Caesar:Naked everybody, unless you're some sort of freak of nature or your mom and dad were doing something I don't even want to get a visual picture of you came in with no clothes on and no stuff.
Caesar:Guess how you're going to go out of this world with no stuff.
Caesar:That means everything in between was given to you by God, everything.
Caesar:Your family, your house, your education, all your stuff, your retirement account, your IRA, it's all God's.
Caesar:Do they believe that?
Caesar:Are they being obedient to that?
Caesar:Are they living out what they would?
Caesar:All, we all agree to this stuff.
Caesar:Do they believe it with their lives?
Caesar:What we'll often say to our folks?
Caesar:Just so you know, we see you as your elders.
Caesar:We see you as all full-time paid staff.
Caesar:Full-time full-time.
Caesar:There's no, there's no divide here of like, well, these handful of people get a salary from the church.
Caesar:They're the missionaries.
Caesar:And then you guys are now see if, if you have clothes on that's everybody.
Caesar:And if you have eaten in the last 24 to 48 hours, I'm guessing that's everybody.
Caesar:Unless somebody.
Caesar:Probably a personal decision to fast.
Caesar:And if you slept sheltered in any way last night, then God has kept his end of the bargain to meet your needs, which means you've been paid, how he chooses to route your paychecks is up to him.
Caesar:And some He routes through XYZ community church, and some he routes through Soma and some of the routes through the journey.
Caesar:And some he routes through Boeing and some he routes through Starbucks and some, he routes through Kmart.
Caesar:It doesn't really matter.
Caesar:Can we just trust God to route it however he pleases, but the fact that you have clothes, eaten or shelter means you're paid.
Caesar:This is all his stuff.
Caesar:Folks are, are we leading our people to live lives of obedience?
Caesar:We were really convicted this year, that as we were trying to be full of grace as a church, we also needed to be full of a call to obedience because the call there again, simple, Jesus says, make disciples, teaching them to obey, not just teaching them.
Caesar:If what we needed in America to get this thing all flipped around and righteous was one more awesome killer sermon.
Caesar:We'd have been there a long time ago.
Caesar:Not alone scripture talks about it, puffs up.
Caesar:Are we believing in our head?
Caesar:Are we believing in our hearts?
Caesar:Are we believing with our lives?
Caesar:Are we motivating people with the right beliefs?
Caesar:And that's gonna include a call to believe it with your life.
Caesar:For us short, you know, like when we're looking at leaders, boom, we go right to like how they live in.
Caesar:Are they in Missional Community to be an elder in Soma, you have to be a Missional Community leader.
Caesar:Who's making disciples who make disciples.
Caesar:If elders aren't, who's gonna, who's going to teach you.
Caesar:Right.
Caesar:We look at your finances, look at your budget.
Caesar:Are you faithful with God's stuff?
Caesar:Nope.
Caesar:You live like it's yours.
Caesar:There's some growth there.
Caesar:Loved and accepted regardless, but we want to still call you to this.
Caesar:It's not your stuff you're living.
Caesar:Like it's your stuff, motivate people with that.
Caesar:Do they do your people believe this is sort of moving from head of believing in their head, that making disciples is the mission.
Caesar:Do they believe in their heart?
Caesar:That the only way to make a disciple is.
Caesar:Going to be a gospel centered life in a community on mission.
Caesar:Do they believe that?
Caesar:So they'll give themselves to community life, not just church or ministry or mission on my own sort of terms.
Caesar:Here's, here's why we harp on this.
Caesar:Okay.
Caesar:And I just, I feel the need again to this gospel, my own heart here a little bit, but we love Sunday.
Caesar:We have rockin' Sundays.
Caesar:But two hours is two hours and 6 22.
Caesar:We need to make disciples as well.
Caesar:And so that's why you hear us really passionate about that and Soma, that's why I'm harping this today, but gospel community on mission is what we're were sent to do.
Caesar:So here's the thing.
Caesar:If it's not gospel centered and you're just hanging out, it's not church.
Caesar:Okay.
Caesar:It's not Jesus' mission.
Caesar:It has nothing to do with God.
Caesar:It's just, it's a dinner party or whatever.
Caesar:We've got the neighbors they've thrown a dinner party in the neighborhood of one of our MC's.
Caesar:This lady has had a Monday night dinner for like 20 years in the neighborhood.
Caesar:It's legendary in Tacoma people die to get on the list because they want community like that.
Caesar:There's no gospel.
Caesar:In fact, I think they're atheists.
Caesar:That's not, that's not Missional Community life though.
Caesar:They've probably serve better food than a lot of Christians do at their Missional Community meetings and small group meetings.
Caesar:It's gotta be gospel centered.
Caesar:It has to be community.
Caesar:Here's why you can't make a disciple one on one.
Caesar:it might be part of how God leads you to disciple somebody just like with your kids.
Caesar:I don't always have all three kids in tow.
Caesar:The other day, I had a conversation with just one of my daughters and I was gospel in her heart in a certain area.
Caesar:It's part of her discipleship.
Caesar:But see if, if you hang out and I was sharing this with some brothers last night, if you're hanging out with somebody, who's now starting to walk in the ways of Jesus.
Caesar:And you are their primary discipler and aren't you do one-to-one discipleship for the next say three years, who will they most begin to resemble spiritually in three years, you Caesar the mission is not make disciples of Caesar.
Caesar:It's make disciples of Christ.
Caesar:And Christ said, well, you don't really look that much like me, except when you play your role as a part of a Body.
Caesar:And so you have to make disciples in a community because they need the foot rubbing on them and the lips and the ear and the knee and the calf.
Caesar:And you know what I mean?
Caesar:They need a whole body of different people types rubbing on them for them to be fully formed and become like Christ.
Caesar:Otherwise they'll just become like you, which might be better than they were, but that's still not the mission
Caesar:and then it needs to be out on mission because until people are out there regularly, amongst sad, stinky, grumpy, hard to get along with people and those inside the church, until that occurs there, gospel need doesn't emerge that much for you to be able to apply the gospel to it, see sitting in a class, or like even like this today.
Caesar:Not a lot of discipleship happening in here.
Caesar:Not a lot of gospel need emerging.
Caesar:Hey, the temperature's about right.
Caesar:For most of us, fairly comfortable seats, the snacks seem to refill themselves back there.
Caesar:Magically we've got indoor plumbing.
Caesar:We're going to go eat something here in a little bit.
Caesar:See right now, if, if we're teaching on the works of the holy spirit in your life, oh, I'm the most sensitive to the spirit guy in the whole world.
Caesar:But go home, see, go home and someone's borrowed the truck again and it's banged up and it's out of gas again.
Caesar:How's my heart.
Caesar:Do I love people more than the truck?
Caesar:And my daughter said she do the dishes that were all totally left over from last night.
Caesar:Cause everybody's coming over today and she's gone and she didn't and I'm freaking out.
Caesar:And my neighbor, who's a freak.
Caesar:I don't know what his deal is.
Caesar:He has flung dog poo from his yard into our yard with a shovel.
Caesar:Again, we don't even own a dog.
Caesar:I don't know what his deal is.
Caesar:How are you?
Caesar:How's your gospel sensitive.
Caesar:How's your holy spirit sensitivity now.
Caesar:See, unless you live in on mission, your crap doesn't emerge.
Caesar:So the gospel can be applied.
Caesar:And so we sit in these perfect environments calling it discipleship, but there's no need.
Caesar:Get out on mission amongst people that don't agree with you.
Caesar:Don't like, you don't want to hear what you have to say.
Caesar:Aren't even that thankful that you're serving them and all your muck come up and you get to bring the gospel to bear on each other from all these different perspectives in the body.
Caesar:So you really can't make disciples outside of gospel communities, living on mission do people believe.
Caesar:And then do they believe it with their lives and theirs?
Caesar:Are they giving themselves?
Caesar:So when I, when I see people who don't want to live in community, I wonder, do they not want to be discipled or do they just not know?
Caesar:Have they not been motivated to understand that?
Caesar:And I know for I've had conversations with lots of churches, well, we've got this way of doing things, but we'd like to be having Missional Community, but our people won't make it.
Caesar:got to motivate them.
Caesar:They need to know the power and the purpose.
Caesar:They're going to have to believe it in their heart, that this is best for them.
Caesar:And they're going to, and they're going to, they're going to have to start to be obedient, to that call in their life.
Caesar:Or you're going to have to wonder if they're really in Christ.
Caesar:This is a good, it's a fair question.
Caesar:The last thing we motivate with and you get to look at is what gives you the power?
Caesar:What gives you the power to live?
Caesar:So we had what you love, what you believe in your head, your heart and your hands.
Caesar:What gives you the power to stay motivated and on-mission, and probably have guessed it already.
Caesar:It's gotta be the holy spirit.
Caesar:It's gotta be the holy spirit living in us.
Caesar:Christ didn't die.
Caesar:Just so we could avoid.
Caesar:Christ died so that when we were forgiven of our sins and washed clean, he could put his spirit in us and dwell in us and empower us.
Caesar:That was the point of the cross.
Caesar:That is where we get our power.
Caesar:Paul says, it's the power that raised Christ from the dead.
Caesar:I was saying that earlier.
Caesar:That is pretty powerful.
Caesar:Yeah.
Caesar:But our budget's really tight.
Caesar:I don't think we could really give to that.
Caesar:I think the power of the gospel that the power that raised Christ from the dead is bigger.
Caesar:I'm afraid of what my neighbors will think, or I don't know how to say this.
Caesar:Let's see.
Caesar:Raise, Christ from the dead,, helping hand.
Caesar:I think it's strong enough for that.
Caesar:Trust kids to community college versus university.
Caesar:Cause I'm just not going to spend that kind of money on it.
Caesar:There is just too much mission to do in this city.
Caesar:Well, just have to trust God for their future power that raised Christ from the dead to believe that yes, you have it.
Caesar:I I've.
Caesar:I felt like the biggest duh thing it occurred this last year in my life recently, I've, we've been as a community, really trying to focus on this.
Caesar:Like, where are we getting the power to do this?
Caesar:I mean, are we doing this in our own strength?
Caesar:Are we doing this in our own strength?
Caesar:How's it going?
Caesar:You know, and we've had to repent as elders actually of being really smart and working really hard.
Caesar:We're probably not that smart, but we do work pretty.
Caesar:And we've actually had to repent of that being smart and working hard because we realized we weren't doing things in the power of the spirit.
Caesar:Okay.
Caesar:And we've started to call each other to accountability on that.
Caesar:Like seriously, like we'd be stoked about something.
Caesar:We're all in agreement, man.
Caesar:We're going this direction as a community, as a church, as leadership team.
Caesar:Let me just check your heart a second.
Caesar:How do you, whose power are you doing that in right now?
Caesar:Or whose power are you planning to go to this city or go do that?
Caesar:You know, what's crazy.
Caesar:Scripture says that even our righteous acts done without faith I eat without the power of the spirit done in our own strength are like filthy.
Caesar:Rags our killer church plants done in our own strength and not in the church power.
Caesar:The spirit filthy rags before the, before the king.
Caesar:Whoa.
Caesar:All of our Missional workout in the neighborhood where we worked really hard and kept a big smile face on.
Caesar:And everybody, we made everybody happy, but we never invited the spirit at any of it.
Caesar:It was all of our plans and we read somebody else did it in a book.
Caesar:So we thought it looked cool to do it here.
Caesar:We worked really hard and super tired now, and I don't think we ever stopped and asked the spirit for power.
Caesar:We did that all on our own strength and it went really well ; filthy rags..
Caesar:So in many cases, I've actually led my people and my family and myself to go out and stack up tampons before the king, because I did it in my own strength.

Caesar:Why we don't give more is I don't want to give more to the mission.
Caesar:Would you be willing to do this with me?
Caesar:Would you talk to the holy spirit right now and ask the spirit to give you the motivation and the heart to want to be more generous in light of God's generosity?
Caesar:I'd be willing to do that.
Caesar:All right.
Caesar:Let's ask the spirit to do that.
Caesar:Done deal done.
Caesar:What gives you power?
Caesar:Is it hard work?
Caesar:Isn't this interesting.
Caesar:If you go through, I don't have the time to do it right now.
Caesar:If you go through and you, and you bust it out, like a lot of the common scriptures that sort of outline the work of the holy spirit out there, what is, what does scripture teach that the holy spirit does in and, or for us?Some stuff.
Caesar:What is the for once, you know, you know of scripture, what is the spirit?
Caesar:The holy spirit do either in, or for us, for his people, this call it out real out.
Caesar:Convicts, comforts, intercedes, instructs, renews.
Caesar:Huh helps strengthens leads in all truth.
Caesar:Wait a second.
Caesar:Helps reminds convicts teaches leads, counsels reveals truth.
Caesar:I thought that was the job of the pastor help remind convict, teach lead counsel.
Caesar:That's the holy Spirit's work family!.
Caesar:Take a deep breath with me right now.
Caesar:*sigh* pressure's off the yoke is in fact easy.
Caesar:Hallelujah.
Caesar:The spirit, the power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us lives in every one of your people.
Caesar:This sounds like the work of the church.
Caesar:To me, help remind convict, teach lead counsel.
Caesar:It's not your work.
Caesar:It's his work.
Caesar:He might do it through you.
Caesar:He might do it through your people.
Caesar:You need to motivate them to trust the spirit.
Caesar:Like let's just stop relegating, the holy spirit to sorta, like, you know, that weird uncle who only shows up like once in a while and Thanksgiving, and we don't quite know what to do.
Caesar:And he says funny things to us.
Caesar:So really be a functional Trinitarian.
Caesar:Would you lead your people to trust and listen and be empowered by the spirit?
Caesar:Don't lead them to just get out on more mission and more program in more.
Caesar:Don't make disciples in your own strength.
Caesar:Let the spirit do it.
Caesar:That's where the power is going to come from.
Caesar:That's where the peace to do this and get up every day and go like, I can't believe I get to, I cannot believe I was chosen for this work for this king and I, it's not even hard.
Caesar:I came in naked, leave naked.
Caesar:I get to use this stuff along the way.
Caesar:I'm empowered by the same power that raised Christ from the dead.
Caesar:It's good news.
Caesar:The Spirit's the one that changes hearts and transforms lives, not us.
Caesar:I mean, you think about that.
Caesar:Anybody who's married knows that all they argued in the world and right reason that doesn't get it done.
Caesar:If you've got teenagers, it's gotta be the holy spirit, man.
Caesar:You believe this, motivate yourself, motivate others with that.
Caesar:The spirits, the primarily the primary discipler and equipper of people.
Caesar:So, let me just close with a couple of questions.
Caesar:In what ways you can say it audibly if you want, or you can just think it, in what ways have you been motivating your people rightly or not been?
Caesar:Let's start there.
Caesar:In what ways maybe have you been not motivating your people?
Caesar:Rightly when you think through that list,
Caesar:and can you, can you begin to see how things might change in your ministry, in your church, in your world, in your cities, if you were to actually use gospel motivation?
Caesar:No.
Caesar:Like really going after what they love, making sure your people really do love Jesus.
Caesar:Understand what they've been given, do they, do they, do they believe and know in their head power and a purpose of a gospel?
Caesar:Not a me centered it's about you and your happiness gospel, but that they know they've been saved for a purpose that was set aside for them before eternity.
Caesar:I'll tell you it's a huge motive.
Caesar:People are dying for significance.
Caesar:And when you'd point out the image of God in them and tell them that God has a purpose for their life from before time began uniquely, that's a great motivator.
Caesar:We got to get this stuff stacked up.
Caesar:Are you motivating with, should not should or what would it look like to motivate with, you know, you don't need to do that, but you need God in that way.
Caesar:are you call them people to be obedient to what scripture is taught or are you just okay.
Caesar:Teaching it and allowing them to keep living?
Caesar:Like they never heard it or believed it.
Caesar:And then the really good news of are we leading our people to be empowered by the spirit, like seriously.
Caesar:And that's going to start with us.
Caesar:It's going to start with us.
Caesar:People see us take a deep breath as leaders and start to trust in and be empowered by the spirit and guided and take stuff off our schedule and add stuff in and whatever, based on what the spirit is calling us to do and quit doing a righteous acts without faith.
Caesar:Wow.
Caesar:I'll tell you some of those questions that I was asking at the end there they're powerful.
Caesar:And they're re-convicting me right now.
Caesar:Weird.
Caesar:As I even hear myself asking those, I'm like, oh, what about you?
Caesar:Yeah.
Caesar:People are dying for significance.
Caesar:Will you offer them a list of Christian todos or help them believe what God says is true of them, their gospel identity, and allow the gospel of change them and lead them on this amazing adventure that Jesus calls us to.
Caesar:I hope so.

Caesar:Here's the big three for this week.
Caesar:First one, Jesus was serious about the cost of discipleship, but he was also clear about the benefits and results of living in light of the gospel of the Kingdom.
Caesar:Be aware of the subtle ways that disobedience, self preference, and complacency creep into your heart and replace a gospel-motivation with a self-motivation.
Caesar:It's sneaky.
Caesar:We've all got a little bit, a bit lurking there.
Caesar:Be aware that every human being was created to live their lives completely for God's glory, showing the world what he's like.
Caesar:And every Christian has been saved and called for the purpose of making disciples.
Caesar:Is this the primary focus of your life?
Caesar:Hmm, here's number two Christ.
Caesar:Didn't die just so we could avoid hell he died so that we would be washed clean and he could put his own spirit within us.
Caesar:Once again, dwell in us, empower us.
Caesar:That's the purpose of the cross.
Caesar:The apostle Paul reminds us the spirit is the power that raised Christ from the dead.
Caesar:And that is pretty powerful.
Caesar:We all have the same spirit dwelling in us.
Caesar:Now this sheds a whole new light on.
Caesar:Do not lean on your own understanding that we here in Proverbs three, five, we have the power that raised Christ from the dead, the wisdom of God, himself, dwelling in us.
Caesar:And I would add, do not lean on your old fleshly motivations to let the spirit and let the gospel reshape and change your motivations.
Caesar:And number three, the power to live.
Caesar:The life that the gospel motivates us to live must come from God himself.
Caesar:Like we were just saying we have the spirit in us.
Caesar:The holy spirit is the primary disciples of people and the motivator of hearts.
Caesar:We don't have to just push harder and push harder.
Caesar:The spirit encourages, reminds, teaches convicts and guides us.
Caesar:That's the work of the spirit.
Caesar:If you've been trying to change people or corral people or grow your church, or get people into a new way of being, or doing the church on Sunday or any type of ministry, apart from faith that the holy spirit will do that work.
Caesar:You're set to fail.
Caesar:Even your righteous deeds and works apart from faith or like filthy rags.
Caesar:Remember Isaiah said that in 64, 6, no one wants.
Caesar:Trust the spirit, the Spirit's the primary discipler and motivator of our hearts.
Caesar:All right.
