Consuming Fire

Leviticus 10:1-3

Our God is a consuming fire.

This is truly an amazing scene.  Nadab and Abihu, two sons of Aaron, offered to God unauthorized fire, not following to God’s command.  Why did they do that?  Honestly, who knows?  Maybe they didn’t think of it.  Maybe they thought offering more fire than what God had commanded would be better.  How did God respond?  The fire from His presence consumed those fires from Nadab and Abihu, and they died before the Lord.

I can only imagine… but I’m truly awed by how great He is!  The fires that Nadab and Abihu offered unauthorized were acts of their own doing; but how great He is to show Himself before them by consuming those fires.  And read the verse 3 – “I will show myself holy; … I will be honored”.  Approaching God is a serious business.  God is holy.  Our own doing will never be accepted by God.  He is holy; we are unholy, being covered with sins and faults.  He is to be honored and glorified; He is not to be played with.

How do you approach God? ....

The Jesus I Never Knew was the first book I read of Philip Yancey, but it wasn't the last one.  This is a great book.  Get to know Jesus in a way that you may not have known.  Philip Yancey takes you into a closer look at Jesus in a very cultural way in a time that He lives, and very personal way.

Daily - Meditate on God's Word

Daily - Are You Reading Your Bible?

"Thy Word is lamp unto my feet, and the light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105)

The word of God should be a center in our pursuit to follow Christ.  It's much easier to just hear the sermon at the church and listen to some Christian music on the radio, and even serve in some ministries.  But, doing without consistent reading of God's word is like feeding your spirit inconsistently and risking your spirit to be unhealthy.

At the start of this year, 2009, the church that I serve began a challenge to read through the whole Bible this year, and so far 101 people have sign up to do so, and I and my wife make up two of those 101 names.  Time wise, it takes about 15-20 minutes a day, and each day's reading is typically about 3-4 chapters.  It's not as hard it seems, but it takes commitment.  It takes an effort to turn off the TV and sit quietly with the Bible.  It's been great, learning so much each day.  I hope you'll join me and others, and jump in with your bible.  You can download the Bible Reading plan (Bible_Reading.pdf) which gives you daily readings.  You don't have to start with January 1.  I actually began my readings in November 2008 with Acts, so you can start today.  I am sure you won't regret.
